Learn To Grow It

If you live in an area with a short growing season, start plants indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date. Gardeners with a long growing season should start seeds indoors mid-spring for a winter harvest.

Plant your seeds 1/4-1/2 in. deep in soil trays or pots indoors. When transplanting out the plants, be very careful to limit any disturbance to the roots.

Make sure that your soil is well fertilized as this crop is a heavy feeder and takes a lot of nutrients from the soil. Consider adding compost to the soil the year before you plant.

Mulching the soil around this crop can help protect the plant and keep roots cool and moist. In frost-free zones, this crop can be grow throughout the fall and winter.
