Seed Savers Exchange Cabbage, Early Jersey Wakefield
First grown in the U.S. by Francis Brill of Jersey City, New Jersey in 1840. The earliest market variety we offer. Conical, solid, tightly folded heads are up to 15" long by 7" wide and weigh 3-4 pounds. 60-75 days from transplant.
You should start plants indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date for transplanting them into the garden.
Make sure that your soil is well fertilized as this crop is a heavy feeder and takes a lot of nutrients from the soil. Consider adding compost to the soil the year before you plant.
