Seed Savers Exchange Herb, Lettuce Leaf Basil
(O. basilicum) (aka Large Leaved Italian) Classic basil described in Vilmorin’s The Vegetable Garden (1885). Named for large crumpled and fluted lettuce-like leaves that are 3-4" long. Sturdy 18-24" plants. Annual.
You can sow seeds indoors or directly into the soil in mild areas starting around mid-spring.
This is a "cut-and-come-again" plant so you can harvest leaves as they mature. Keep the leaves well watered and cool.
