NORTH SPORE Boomr Bag

Monotub Mushroom Grow Kit

Start growing your own edible or medicinal mushrooms indoors. (All that's required is a spore syringe or liquid culture!)

Our beginner-friendly Boomr Bin Monotub Mushroom Grow Kit makes mushroom growing easy. Created by mycologists, this complete starter kit is equipped with everything you need to grow mushrooms at home. Plus, the patent-pending design is optimized for all growers – whether you prefer low-tech grows, or want to connect automated upgrades (like fresh air fans and humidity controls.)

Each Boomr Bin Monotub Kit includes:

  • (1) Boomr Bin monotub
  • (3) Boomr Bag Sterile Manure Substrate (5 lbs each)
  • (1) Organic Sterilized Grain Bag with Injection Port (3 lbs)
  • (1) Coco Coir casing layer (2 lbs)
  • (2) Sheets of self-adhesive filters (1” and 2”)

Our Boomr Bag, sterilized grain bag, and coco coir are three growth mediums for colonization, incubation, and growth. We've also added two sizes of self-adhesive filters designed to keep out foreign spores and other contaminants while maintaining proper humidity, airflow, and gas exchange.

Boomr Bin monotub features:

  • Modular design accepts automated air exchange and humidification systems.
  • Food-grade materials are FDA-approved for contact with consumables.
  • Compact durable design holds up to 20 pounds of substrate.
  • Latches attached to the base to prevent the lid from popping off when picking up.
  • Extra large latches with recessed grips for easy lifting and transport.
  • Large rounded corners for easy cleaning and fewer places for contaminants to hide.
  • Row of 1” holes placed lower in lid to prevent fuzzy stems.
  • Black light-blocking base helps colonization and aids in preventing side pinning.
  • Dimensions: 22”(W) x 13”(D) x 11”(H)

Spawn to bulk ratio:

  • We recommended mixing 1 colonized grain spawn bag with 2-3 Boomr Bags. (Higher inoculation rates may improve your success.)

IMPORTANT:  Coco coir should only be added once the Boomr Bin is fully colonized and pins begin to form. Only a thin layer of coco coir (approx. 1/2 inch) is necessary.

Cleaning instructions:

We recommend cleaning your monotub between each use to keep all surfaces as sterile as possible.

  • Wipe down all surfaces to remove dirt and spores with a soft cloth soaked in warm water.
  • Sanitize by spraying with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution inside and out.
  • DO NOT use bleach or abrasives.

Boomr Bag substrate

Our best-selling Boomr Bag is a sterile bulk mushroom substrate formulated by mycologists to maximize your mushroom yield. It features a proprietary blend of composted horse manure, coco coir, and several quality substrate supplements (although we keep the exact blend a secret!) Over several years, it has been perfected for dung-loving mushroom species and is widely-trusted by mushroom growers.

Each bag weighs 5 pounds. (Note: Bags are hydrated to field capacity.) Use Boomr Bag in monotubs, filter bags, and outdoor beds. Or, grow mushrooms from the bag or tray in a humidity-controlled grow room or Martha set up.

Spawn to bulk ratio:

We recommended mixing 1 colonized grain spawn bag with 2-3 Boomr Bags. (Higher inoculation rates may improve your success.)

Best practices:

  • We recommend clean hands, latex or nitrile gloves, and sterile technique when using Wood Lovr to reduce the introduction of contaminants.
  • Be sure to mix colonized grain spawn thoroughly into your substrate.
  • It is best practice to wait a minimum of 1 week after arrival before using sterile substrates to ensure they were not compromised during transit. Rest assured that your purchase is 100% guaranteed. If your substrate was compromised, we will replace it.

Sterilized grain bag:

Our sterile grain bag with an injection port was formulated by mycologists to maximize the speed and size of your mushroom grow. Each spawn bag contains 3 lbs of our proprietary blend featuring hydrated, nutrient-rich organic millet and wheat berries. Bags also include a self-healing injection port for use with a spore or culture syringe plus a 0.2 micron filter patch to block airborne contaminants while providing even gas exchange. Bag weighs 3 pounds. (Note: Bags are hydrated to field capacity.)

Spawn to bulk ratio:

We recommended mixing 1 colonized grain spawn bag with 2-3 Boomr Bags. (Higher inoculation rates may improve your success.)

Coco coir casing layer:

IMPORTANT: Coco coir should only be added once the monotub is fully colonized and pins begin to form. Only a thin layer of coco coir (1/4 to 1/2 inch) is necessary.

Coco coir provides many benefits to the mushroom cultivation process. In addition to moisture retention, the porous structure of coir material enables good exchange of air and water and is highly resistant to contaminants making it ideal for mushroom growing. It is often used as casing, added to substrates, and is even used in garden beds as an alternative to peat moss.

Self-adhesive filters:

These self-adhesive filters are made from 100% recycled filter material and sized to fit over 2" and 1" holes on the monotub. Use these in place of polyfill to keep out foreign spores and other contaminants while maintaining humidity and air exchange.
