Coast of Maine Cape Neddick Blend Indoor Houseplant Mix is an organic and natural, compost-free potting mix formulated for tropical houseplants, indoor flowers and container-grown herbs. Its coarse blend creates an airy root environment while retaining the moisture plants need between waterings.

Chunky coconut coir, perlite and aged bark improve drainage and help resist compaction, while sphagnum peat moss provides balanced moisture retention. The resulting structure supports healthy root development in indoor containers where dense or persistently wet soil can cause problems.

Key Benefits

  • Made for indoor plants: Formulated specifically for tropical foliage plants, flowering houseplants and indoor herbs.
  • Compost-free formula: Avoids the heavier texture and additional compost-derived nutrient load found in many outdoor planting soils.
  • Improved root-zone aeration: Perlite, chunky coir and aged bark create air spaces that support healthy root development.
  • Balanced drainage: Coarse ingredients allow excess water to move through the container more efficiently.
  • Moisture retention: Sphagnum peat moss and coconut coir help maintain consistent moisture without creating an overly dense mix.
  • Resists compaction: The varied particle sizes help maintain structure through repeated watering.
  • Ready to use: Suitable for potting or repotting houseplants directly from the bag.

Ingredients

Aged bark, sphagnum peat moss, perlite and chunky coconut fiber (coir).

How to Repot a Houseplant

  1. Select a clean container with unobstructed drainage holes.
  2. Add enough Cape Neddick Blend to support the plant at the proper height.
  3. Gently remove the plant from its existing container and loosen tightly circling roots.
  4. Position the plant at approximately the same depth at which it was previously growing.
  5. Fill around the root ball with additional mix and gently firm it with your fingers. Avoid packing it tightly.
  6. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain completely.
  7. Place the plant in lighting and temperatures appropriate for its variety.

Watering and Maintenance

Check the mix regularly and water according to the needs of the individual plant. Allow excess water to drain freely and do not leave the container standing in water for extended periods. Although Cape Neddick Blend promotes drainage, proper watering and a container with drainage holes remain essential for preventing waterlogged roots.

Because this is a compost-free mix, establish a suitable houseplant fertilizer routine based on the plant variety, season and growth rate. Newly repotted or stressed plants may benefit from a short adjustment period before regular feeding resumes.
