FoxFarm Bush Doctor Coco Loco Potting Mix combines the moisture-holding benefits of coco coir with the structure, biological activity and gentle nutrition of an amended potting soil. Its light, breathable texture keeps moisture available while allowing air to penetrate the root zone, making it an excellent choice for container plants, hanging baskets, vertical gardens and seedling trays.

Unlike raw or inert coco coir, Coco Loco contains a built-in fertilizer charge derived from earthworm castings, bat guano, oyster shell and dolomite lime. It is also inoculated with beneficial mycorrhizal fungi that may colonize plant roots and help improve nutrient and water uptake.

Key benefits:

  • Coco coir holds moisture and can extend the time between waterings
  • Aged forest products and perlite create a light, well-aerated root environment
  • Triple-washed coco coir helps reduce initial salt content
  • Built-in 0.50-0.15-0.20 fertilizer charge provides gentle starter nutrition
  • Supplies 1% calcium from natural soil amendments
  • Earthworm castings and bat guano enrich the growing medium
  • Oyster shell and dolomite lime contribute calcium and help condition the mix
  • Beneficial mycorrhizal fungi help support root efficiency
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor container gardening

Guaranteed analysis:

Primary ingredients:

Coco coir, aged forest products, perlite and fertilizer derived from earthworm castings, bat guano, oyster shell and dolomite lime.

Best uses:

  • Indoor and outdoor potted plants
  • Tropical houseplants
  • Vegetables, herbs and flowering annuals
  • Hanging baskets
  • Patio containers
  • Vertical gardens
  • Seedling and propagation trays

How to use:

Fill the container with Coco Loco, leaving approximately 1 inch of space below the top edge. Position the plant at the proper depth, gently fill around the root mass and lightly firm the mix without packing it tightly. Water thoroughly after planting and allow excess water to drain.

For repotting, select a container larger than the existing root mass. Add enough mix to position the plant at the correct height, fill around the roots and water thoroughly.

Watering guidance:

Coco Loco generally requires less frequent watering than conventional peat-heavy potting mixes. FoxFarm notes that watering every two to three days may be sufficient in many climates, but frequency will vary with plant size, container size, temperature, humidity and airflow.

Check the medium before watering and apply enough water to saturate the root zone while allowing excess moisture to drain freely.

Using Coco Loco with FoxFarm nutrients:

Coco Loco contains an initial fertilizer package, but additional nutrition will be needed as plants develop. FoxFarm recommends pairing its soil mixes with an appropriate fertilizer program during the growing and blooming seasons.

  • Big Bloom provides gentle, organic-based nutrition and root-zone support throughout the plant lifecycle.
  • Grow Big supports vigorous vegetative growth once plants require supplemental feeding.
  • Tiger Bloom supplies phosphorus-rich nutrition when plants begin flowering or fruiting.
  • Bush Doctor supplements can be incorporated according to plant needs and the appropriate FoxFarm feeding schedule.

Begin supplemental feeding conservatively and adjust according to plant response. Coco Loco is an amended potting mix—not an inert coco substrate—so avoid treating it like completely uncharged coco coir.
