NORTH SPORE CVG

(Coco Vermiculite Gypsum) Sterile Bulk Substrate

Grow a variety of fungi with this beginner-friendly classic!

CVG has been helping beginner growers experience the joys of bulk substrates for decades. It’s a simple recipe – Coco, Vermiculite, and Gypsum – that yields consistent results. We use premium, third-party tested ingredients, then hydrate to field capacity and sterilize in industrial autoclaves for a bulk substrate that provides dependable yields.

Our ready-to-use CVG blend starts with our own RHP-certified MycoCoco as the base (the first coco coir researched and selected specifically for its mushroom cultivation qualities). We then add asbestos-free, horticulture-grade, US-sourced vermiculite and complete the trifecta with OMRI-approved gypsum. These components have a low bacterial load and low nitrogen levels making them less prone to contamination and ideal for beginner growers. The result is a perfect balanced substrate for mushroom spawn to prosper and fruit.

Moisture content: Each bag is optimally hydrated for fast colonization times and top yields.

Spawn to bulk ratio:

We recommended mixing 1 colonized grain spawn bag with 2-3 bags of CVG. (Higher inoculation rates may improve your success.)

Best practices:

  • We recommend clean hands, latex or nitrile gloves, and sterile technique when using CVG to reduce the introduction of contaminants.
  • Be sure to mix colonized grain spawn thoroughly into your substrate.
  • It is best practice to wait a minimum of 1 week after arrival before using sterile substrates to ensure they were not compromised during transit. Rest assured that your purchase is 100% guaranteed. If your substrate was compromised, we will replace it.

    Storing:

CVG should be stored at room temperature out of direct sunlight. No refrigeration is necessary. They can also be stored for several months before use.

    Sterilization:

Our CVG is sterilized in a commercial-grade autoclave. Sterility is verified using biological indicators and temperature sensors.
