NPK Industries RAW Kelp 0-0-1 is a highly concentrated, water-soluble plant biostimulant made from 99% pure Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract. It supplies naturally occurring trace elements, organic compounds and plant-growth substances associated with kelp to support root development, vegetative vigor and plant response during challenging environmental conditions.

The concentrated dry powder dissolves readily for use in soil, coco coir, hydroponic reservoirs and compatible foliar programs. With only 1% soluble potash, RAW Kelp can supplement an existing fertilizer schedule without functioning as a high-strength base nutrient.

  • Vegetative support: Complements plant metabolism, leaf development and structural growth.
  • Stress-response applications: Frequently used during transplanting, temperature fluctuations and other demanding growth periods.
  • Trace element content: Supplies naturally occurring seaweed-derived minerals and organic compounds.
  • Water-soluble powder: Mixes readily into water or nutrient solution when properly dissolved.
  • Root and foliar versatility: Suitable for irrigation, hydroponic reservoirs, seed-soak programs and properly diluted foliar applications.
  • Full-cycle flexibility: May be incorporated during propagation, vegetative growth, flowering and fruit production.
  • Broad fertilizer compatibility: Works alongside organic-based or conventional mineral nutrient programs.

RAW Kelp is a supplement rather than a complete fertilizer. It does not supply sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium or micronutrients to replace an appropriate base nutrient program.

Naturally Occurring Compounds in Kelp

Ascophyllum nodosum is a brown seaweed that naturally develops in tidal environments exposed to changing temperature, moisture, salinity and sunlight conditions.

Seaweed extracts contain a complex mixture of naturally occurring compounds. The manufacturer identifies auxins, cytokinins and gibberellins among the plant-growth substances associated with RAW Kelp:

  • Auxin-associated compounds: Commonly associated with rooting and directional growth processes.
  • Cytokinin-associated compounds: Involved in cell division, new tissue development and interactions with other growth signals.
  • Gibberellin-associated compounds: Associated with germination, stem development and reproductive processes.

The concentration of each individual plant-growth compound is not guaranteed on the public product label. RAW Kelp should therefore be treated as a kelp biostimulant rather than as a precisely standardized plant-hormone product.

How to Use

Add RAW Kelp to water or nutrient solution at the following rate:

  • Light or Initial Application: Mix 1/16 teaspoon per gallon.
  • Standard Application: Mix up to 1/8 teaspoon per gallon.
  • Application Frequency: Apply as needed according to the selected feeding schedule and plant response.
  • Growth Stages: Suitable during propagation, vegetative growth, flowering and fruit production.

Kelp extracts are active at low concentrations. Begin with the lower rate and avoid exceeding the published directions.

Recommended Mixing Instructions

  1. Fill the reservoir or watering container with fresh water.
  2. Measure RAW Kelp using a clean, dry measuring tool.
  3. Pre-dissolve the powder in a separate container of water.
  4. Add the dissolved solution to the main reservoir.
  5. Mix or circulate thoroughly.
  6. Add base fertilizers and other compatible supplements individually.
  7. Mix thoroughly between each addition.
  8. Measure the completed solution’s EC or PPM when applicable.
  9. Check and adjust pH after all products have been added.

Never combine dry fertilizer powders or concentrated supplements directly together.

Seed and Propagation Applications

The manufacturer identifies RAW Kelp as suitable for seed soaking and propagation programs. Kelp-derived compounds are commonly used to support germination and early root development.

Follow the current package directions for seed-soak concentration and duration. Avoid soaking seeds longer than recommended, as excessive kelp or extended exposure is not necessarily beneficial.

For propagation plugs or young seedlings, begin with the lowest recommended concentration and monitor for sensitivity.

Foliar Application

RAW Kelp is compatible with foliar feeding, but the current public product directions do not specify a separate foliar concentration. Follow the rate printed on the applicable package label.

For responsible foliar use:

  1. Dissolve the powder completely in clean water.
  2. Test the solution on a small area before treating the entire crop.
  3. Apply during cooler, lower-light conditions.
  4. Spray lightly and evenly without excessive runoff.
  5. Avoid applications under intense lighting or high temperatures.
  6. Avoid spraying open flowers.
  7. Discontinue use if leaf spotting or other sensitivity appears.

Do not assume the root-zone concentration is automatically appropriate for every foliar application.

Using It With RAW Humic Acid

NPK Industries recommends pairing RAW Kelp with RAW Humic Acid using a 5:2 humic-to-kelp ratio. This combination is intended to unite the nutrient-retention and chelating properties of humic acid with the naturally occurring compounds supplied by kelp.

Use five proportional parts RAW Humic Acid for every two equivalent parts RAW Kelp while keeping both products within their individual application limits.

Plant type, environmental conditions and fertilizer program affect results. The combination should not be represented as guaranteeing a specific improvement in growth, yield or nutrient uptake.

Using It During Transplanting and Stress

RAW Kelp may be incorporated at transplanting or during periods of environmental stress. The RAW stress and transplant recipe combines kelp with RAW B-Vitamin to support plants during demanding transitions.

Kelp does not correct heat, drought, damaged roots, poor irrigation or unsuitable environmental conditions by itself. Address the underlying stressor while using the supplement as part of the broader plant-management program.

Soil and Coco Coir Applications

In soil and coco coir, RAW Kelp can be added to normal irrigation or nutrient solution. Maintain appropriate drainage and avoid overwatering.

Coco growers should continue monitoring input and runoff EC or PPM. RAW Kelp does not replace appropriate calcium, magnesium or base nutrient management.

Hydroponic Applications

RAW Kelp is water-soluble and suitable for compatible hydroponic reservoirs and fertigation systems.

Pre-dissolve the powder before adding it to the reservoir. Maintain adequate circulation and inspect filters and emitters regularly. Although the product dissolves readily, no additive eliminates the need for routine irrigation-system maintenance.

Kelp-derived organic compounds may influence reservoir color or biological activity. Monitor temperature, aeration, pH, odors and biofilm as part of normal reservoir care.

Important Usage Notes

  • RAW Kelp is a biostimulant supplement, not a complete fertilizer.
  • It contributes 1% soluble potash and should be included in precision nutrient calculations.
  • Begin with the lower recommended concentration.
  • More kelp is not necessarily more effective.
  • Individual plant-hormone concentrations are not guaranteed.
  • Follow the current package directions for foliar and seed-soak applications.
  • Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry location.
  • Protect the powder from moisture, humidity and direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
