NPK Industries RAW Yucca 50% Natural Wetting Agent
NPK Industries RAW Yucca is a highly concentrated, completely water-soluble natural wetting agent containing 50% Yucca schidigera extract. By reducing the surface tension of water, it helps irrigation and nutrient solutions spread more evenly throughout growing media and improves the coverage of compatible foliar sprays across plant surfaces.
RAW Yucca can help rehydrate dry or water-repellent growing media, distribute nutrients throughout the root zone, improve contact with fine root hairs, and support more effective salt-flushing programs. Its microbe-friendly formula is compatible with soil, coco coir, hydroponic, living-soil, nutrient, foliar, and irrigation programs.
Key Benefits
- 50% yucca extract: Contains a highly concentrated level of Yucca schidigera extract.
- Natural wetting action: Reduces water’s surface tension to improve spreading and penetration.
- More even irrigation: Helps reduce channeling, dry pockets, and uneven moisture distribution.
- Root-zone coverage: Encourages water and diluted nutrients to reach fine root hairs throughout the growing medium.
- Foliar spray coverage: Helps compatible spray solutions form a thin, even film instead of beading on leaves.
- Flushing support: Improves water movement through the growing medium during salt-removal and leaching programs.
- Dry-media rehydration: Helps water penetrate peat, soil, coco, and other media that have become difficult to wet.
- Microbe-friendly formulation: Designed to be gentle on beneficial bacteria and fungi.
- Complete solubility: Dissolves fully for clean use in watering cans, reservoirs, and irrigation systems.
- Extremely concentrated: Provides effective wetting action at a very low application rate.
- Broad compatibility: Works with soil, coco coir, hydroponic, living-soil, foliar, and fertigation programs.

RAW Yucca is a wetting agent rather than a complete fertilizer. It helps water and dissolved inputs spread more effectively but does not replace an appropriate plant nutrition program.
How RAW Yucca Works
Water molecules naturally attract one another, creating surface tension. This tension can cause water to bead on foliage, run through established channels in growing media, or resist penetrating dry peat and hydrophobic soil.
Yucca extract contains naturally occurring compounds that reduce this surface tension. The resulting solution spreads more evenly, improves contact with soil particles and leaf surfaces, and can reach areas that plain water may bypass.
Application Rate
RAW Yucca is extremely concentrated. The current manufacturer rate is:
- Standard Rate: Mix 1/16 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water or finished spray solution.
- Root-Zone Irrigation: Add to the completed watering or nutrient solution.
- Foliar Programs: Use in compatible spray solutions at the manufacturer rate unless the applied product specifies otherwise.
- Flushing Programs: Add to low-EC flushing water to encourage even penetration and runoff.
- Frequency: Apply as needed rather than automatically adding it to every irrigation.
Do not increase the concentration simply because the measured amount appears small. Excessive surfactant can cause unnecessary foaming, overly rapid media saturation, or unwanted foliar effects.
For batches smaller than five gallons, use a precise scale or prepare a correctly measured diluted stock solution. Avoid estimating extremely small quantities by eye.
Recommended Mixing Instructions
- Fill the reservoir, watering container, or sprayer with clean water.
- Add and thoroughly mix the required base nutrients and supplements.
- Measure RAW Yucca carefully.
- Dissolve it in a small amount of water.
- Add the diluted yucca solution to the main mixture.
- Stir or circulate until evenly distributed.
- Check the completed solution’s EC or PPM and pH.
- Apply promptly according to the intended irrigation, flushing, or foliar program.
Never combine RAW Yucca powder directly with undiluted fertilizer concentrates. Dilute each product separately in water.
Because yucca is a surfactant, vigorous aeration or excessive mixing may produce foam. Use the recommended concentration and reduce unnecessary agitation if foaming develops.
Improving Irrigation and Moisture Distribution
RAW Yucca can help irrigation water spread both vertically and horizontally through growing media. More uniform movement may reduce:
- Dry pockets within containers
- Water running down the sides of pots
- Channeling through previously saturated pathways
- Uneven nutrient distribution
- Difficulty rewetting peat-based media
- Inconsistent runoff between containers
Apply the solution slowly enough to allow the growing medium to absorb water evenly. A wetting agent cannot compensate for severely compacted media, blocked drainage, or improper irrigation volume.
Rehydrating Dry Growing Media
Peat moss, potting soil, and some soilless mixes can become difficult to rewet after drying excessively. Water may bead on the surface or run around the root ball without penetrating the center.
Use RAW Yucca at the recommended rate and apply the solution gradually. Allow an initial light application to absorb before completing the irrigation. Extremely dry containers may require more than one slow pass.
Avoid flooding severely dehydrated plants with a large volume all at once, as damaged roots may need time to recover.
Supporting Salt-Flushing Programs
RAW Yucca can help flushing water penetrate the growing medium more uniformly and contact areas affected by fertilizer accumulation. This supports more consistent movement of dissolved salts toward the container’s drainage points.
RAW Yucca does not chemically neutralize or eliminate fertilizer salts. Effective flushing still requires:
- Appropriately low-EC input water
- Enough water to dissolve and mobilize accumulated minerals
- Adequate container drainage
- Sufficient runoff
- Monitoring of runoff EC or PPM
- Correction of the overfeeding or irrigation practice that caused the buildup
Continue flushing only as needed. Excessive leaching can remove desirable nutrients and leave the root zone overly saturated.
Foliar Spray Use
RAW Yucca helps compatible foliar solutions spread into a thin, uniform film rather than forming large beads on leaf surfaces. Better coverage can improve contact between the spray solution and the intended treatment area.
For foliar application:
- Prepare the foliar product according to its label.
- Confirm that the product permits use with a wetting agent or adjuvant.
- Add RAW Yucca at the recommended concentration.
- Test the finished mixture on a small section of foliage.
- Apply under low-intensity lighting and moderate temperatures.
- Provide adequate airflow while leaves dry.
- Avoid saturating open flowers or produce intended for immediate harvest.
When applying a pesticide, fungicide, or other regulated product, the pesticide label determines whether a surfactant may be added. Do not use RAW Yucca as an adjuvant when the treatment label prohibits one.
Using It With Beneficial Microbes
The manufacturer describes RAW Yucca as compatible with beneficial microorganisms. It can be incorporated into living-soil, compost-tea, and microbial root-zone programs when used at the recommended rate.
Mix mineral nutrients first, confirm that water conditions are appropriate, and then add microbial inoculants according to their directions. Avoid exposing living microorganisms to concentrated fertilizer products or extreme pH.
RAW Yucca supports water distribution but is not itself a microbial inoculant.
Hydroponic and Irrigation Use
Because RAW Yucca dissolves completely, it can be incorporated into hydroponic reservoirs, drip irrigation, and fertigation systems. Its wetting action may improve the distribution of nutrient solution through coco coir, rockwool, and other soilless media.
Use the minimum effective concentration. Highly aerated reservoirs may develop foam when too much surfactant is present. Monitor pumps, air stones, return lines, and reservoir surfaces after the first application.

RAW Yucca is suitable for:
- Potting soil
- Living-soil systems
- Peat-based growing media
- Coco coir
- Rockwool
- Soilless mixes
- Hydroponic reservoirs
- Deep water culture
- Drip irrigation and fertigation
- Flood-and-drain systems
- Nutrient film technique
- Regular hand-watering programs
- Compatible foliar applications
