(aka Bleu de Solaise) Beautiful 19th century French historic variety with truly blue-colored leaves that turn violet after a cold spell. Very large 15-20" stalks are sweet and flavorful. Extremely hardy, good for short-season areas and winter harvest. 100-120 days from transplant.
This crop requires a long growing season and should be started indoors in mid to late winter. You can transplant them outdoors 1-2 weeks after all danger of frost has passed.
Make sure that your soil is well fertilized as this crop is a heavy feeder and takes a lot of nutrients from the soil. Consider adding compost to the soil the year before you plant.
